Verlin ''Bud Sowards

Verlin ?Bud? Sowards, a life-long Stroud resident, was born in Stroud, Oklahoma, on June 21, 1919, and departed this life in Stroud on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at the age of 87 years. Bud was the son of Willard and Meldia Owen Sowards. He proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army. Bud worked in the oilfield & was a rancher. He married Janie Browers in Stroud, Oklahoma on July 29, 1966. Bud was a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Legion and VFW. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Survivors include his wife, Janie of the home; one daughter, Janie Beth Atwater of Lawrence, KS; three sisters, Juanita Roberts of Denver, CO, Cleota Lackey of Houston, TX, Virginia Flippo & husband Mark of Arlington, TX; and one grandson, Daniel Atwater of Ithaca, NY.
