Robert Glen Way

April 17, 1922 — January 8, 2007

Robert Glen Way passed from this world on the final ride of his life January 8, 2007 after a long struggle to survive in Ole? Oklahoma. Proceeded in death by his parents, Robert C. and Gladys Sims Way, his precious daughter, Linda Sue Hartshorn and wife, Mary Thorne Way. He is survived by a brother, Billy E. and wife Mary Lou Way of Meeker, OK; his son, Jimmie Robert Way, Escondido, CA; his favorite ?Uncle?, Al Sims, Midwest City, OK; five grandchildren, Shelley, Rodney, Steven, Robert and David Hartshorn, Cheyenne, WY; nieces and nephews, Billy Maxxon Way, Sherry Lou Wilfong, Christy Coleman, Debra Tarpenning, Richard, Robby and Randy Way, and special great nephew Chad Coleman, Meeker, OK, and many, many special friends. ?Bobby? was born April 17, 1922 and raised for twenty years at Payson Pump station, where his father was station engineer. He graduated from Meeker Schools and enlisted in the U. S. Navy. His talent for music was inherited and shared with his father and uncle; he could whistle the birds from their nests and pencil sketch faces of friends and his favorite sailor boy on the envelopes he sent home while serving as a fireman in the Navy, from 1942 until 1945 at the Naval Air Station in San Diego, CA. Bob?s occupation was in the automotive world; however, his worldly occupation was that of a tour guide. Going for rides, also inherited by the Way family, was his way of life. He knew little known facts about the surrounding counties, their history, people, and buildings long covered by weeds and tall grass. He had driven nearly every road and knew nearly every detail of his beloved Oklahoma. His gift of communicating that history was enjoyed by all of us who rode with him. God?s speed and thanks Bob, we?ll think of you often as we ride: In Ole? Oklahoma Beneath the western skies, Where folks all say ?Hi Stranger? And friendship never dies. In Ole? Oklahoma Where Cowboys sing all day, The Indians play their tom-toms Without a word to say. Coyotes on the hill-top Tell their lonesome tale, They say ?Settle down you doggies It?s twilight on the trail.? So in Ole? Oklahoma Beneath the western sky, I?ve lived there up till now, boys I?ll live there till I die. Graveside services will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, January 12, 2007 at the New Hope Cemetery Pavilion, Meeker, OK with Rev. Hubert Gilbert officiating. Donations may be sent to the Meeker Volunteer Fire Department, City Clerk, PO Box 428, Meeker, OK 74855. Services are under the direction of Smith~Parks Funeral Service in Harrah, OK.
