Mr. Richard Leslie Irwin, a lifelong resident of Meeker, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2024 in Oklahoma City, at the age of 83. Richard was born on January 15, 1941 in Prague, Oklahoma and was the son of Cotton and Bertie (Neer) Irwin. Richard grew up in Meeker and was a 1959 graduate of Meeker High School.
Richard was known for his work ethic and his keen eye for dealing, especially in pipe. He started working at a very young age, delivering newspapers on his many paper routes, and owning his own cattle as a grade schooler. That work ethic transitioned into adult hood and Richard became the third generation of Irwin businessmen. While Richard’s work ethic was well known, his generous spirit was truly what defined him. He was generous to many causes all around Meeker and Lincoln County. His generosity and passion for the Meeker community was rewarded when he was named the Meeker Citizen of the Year and was also the grand marshal for the Meeker Centennial Parade.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Kim Kretchmar and her husband, Nick, Rich Irwin and his wife, Brook, and Will Irwin. Stepchildren Leslie Bronson, Jeff Bronson, Tony Bronson, Catie Jewell and Holly Prater; grandchildren, Peyton Christian and his wife Shelby, Van Irwin, Cayton Irwin, Michelle Bronson, Brad Bronson, Chris Bronson, Stacey Bronson, Katie Bronson, Kaci Kretchmar, Kyle Kretchmar, Josh Kretchmar, Collin Christian, Ethan Jewell and Chase Jewell; two brothers, Grant Irwin and Pat Irwin and one sister, Susie Thompson and a host of family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Sparks Nutrition Site in Richard’s memory. Donations can be sent to: Sparks Nutrition Site: Attn: Pam: PO Box 148, Sparks, OK 74869
