Prague

Lorraine Marie Henry, age 78, of Prague, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025, in Prague. She was born on May 7, 1947, in Chandler, Oklahoma, to Jack and Lavada M. (Wakley) Place.

Lorraine’s early years were shaped by a life of movement and adaptability. She grew up in several communities, including Arizona, Kansas, Chandler, and Davenport, Oklahoma, experiences that helped form her warm, welcoming nature and deep appreciation for people from all walks of life. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1965.

Following high school, Lorraine pursued her passion for learning at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, where she earned her Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Language Arts, Secondary Education in 1969. She went back to the University of Central Oklahoma, where she earned her Master’s Degree in Instructional Media in 1983.

On March 21, 1969, Lorraine married the love of her life, Chuck Henry. Together, they made their home in Prague, Oklahoma, where they raised their three children, Kris, Kelli, and Kammi, and became deeply rooted in the community they loved.

Lorraine devoted her professional life to education, serving as a beloved high school teacher for many years. She began her career at Paden Public Schools, where she taught for six years. She then went on to Prague High School, where she taught for nineteen years. In 1995, Lorraine was given the opportunity to teach in Instructional Media at Depew Public Schools and couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Lorraine made the move, where she worked until her retirement. Throughout her career, Lorraine touched countless lives as evidenced by being awarded Teacher of the Year in all three school districts she served. A feat not many can claim. Beyond the classroom, Lorraine poured her heart into her students and school community, serving as a cheer sponsor, senior class sponsor for each of her children’s graduating classes, school librarian, and an active supporter of the athletic booster club. Her dedication left a lasting impression on generations of students and colleagues alike.

Her faith was central to her life. Lorraine was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Prague, where she faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher, volunteered in Vacation Bible School, and cherished her time with the church ladies walking group. Her faith, kindness, and quiet strength were evident in all she did.

At home, Lorraine expressed her creativity and love through sewing, baking, and cooking. She was especially gifted in sewing, lovingly making outfits and dresses for her children, including cherished prom dresses. She was also an accomplished baker who delighted in cake decorating, making kolaches and sharing her creations with family and friends.

Above all else, Lorraine treasured her role as a grandmother. Known affectionately as “Grammy,” she found her greatest joy in time spent with her grandchildren, showering them with love, encouragement, and unwavering pride.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Lavada Place, and her infant sister, Tanya.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 56 years, Chuck Henry; her children, Kris Henry and wife Christy, Kelli Barris and husband Caleb, and Kammi Henry; her grandchildren, Tyler Henry and wife Hattie, and Marly Pahl and husband Caleb; her brother, Delbert Place; her sisters, Norma Hightower and Mary Cook; along with many extended family members, former students, and dear friends.
