Linda Darlene Tonubbee, affectionately known as Darlene, passed away in Tulsa, Oklahoma, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Darlene was born in Chandler to Robert Walker and Geneva (Howard) Pomeroy, and was lovingly raised by her stepfather, Tommy Pomeroy. A proud graduate of Davenport High School, she earned the title of Salutatorian for the Class of 1969. In 1970, she moved to Georgia with her family, where she spent the next two decades before returning home to Oklahoma in 1990.
In 1991, she began working as an underwriter assistant for National American Insurance Company, where she remained a dedicated employee until her retirement in 2024.
Darlene was the proud mother of two children, Kevin and Cassandra, and her devotion to them and their families was unmatched. Small in stature, Darlene was fierce when it came to protecting and supporting her loved ones. Whether it was offering a listening ear, lending a helping hand, or simply showing up when it mattered most, she was always there.
Darlene had a deep love for cooking and was known for her delicious dishes, especially her lasagna, cookie cakes, fried pork chops, and holiday dressing that seasoned every family gathering with warmth. She was also skilled in sewing and crocheting, delighting many with her handmade stockings and crafts.
A spirited fan of the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Darlene loved watching sports and dancing. In the 1980s, she embraced Jazzercise with enthusiasm, even traveling to Chicago to take part in events.
She was known by many cherished names—Mom, Grandma, Nana, Big Grandma, and Grandma T—and each one reflected the special role she played in the lives of those who loved her.
Darlene was preceded in death by her father, Robert Walker, and her stepfather, Tommy Pomeroy.
She is survived by her loving mother, Geneva Pomeroy; her children, Kevin Smith and his wife, Michelle, and Cassandra Gordon; her grandchildren, Logan Smith, Gracie Smith, Alexandria Gordon, Audra Bourgeois and her husband, Bridon, and Dalton Alsip; great-grandchildren, Addilyn Simpson, Auynlee Bourgeois, and Archer Alsip; brothers, Kent Walker and his wife, Lorrie, and Scott Walker and his wife, Joy; sisters, Regina Foster and her husband, David, and Tammy Degelos and her husband, Jeff; her beloved cat, Precious; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
