Gary Lynn Hanten passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2025 at his home surrounded by family.
Gary was born to Theodore and Esther (Carman) Hanten on Thursday, December 27, 1951 in Mitchell, South Dakota. He graduated from Notre Dame Catholic School in Mitchell, South Dakota and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 1974. He retired in 2008 after 34 years of service at ConocoPhillips as a Superintendent, Pipeline Engineer, and Rail Car Manager. Gary met Marlene Aikman in Bartlesville, OK in 1991 and they married in Miami, Oklahoma on June 22, 1993. After Gary’s retirement they bought land and made their home in Oklahoma so he could enjoy one of his biggest hobbies, hunting. Gary also enjoyed fishing, gold prospecting, reading, and researching (and boy, did he love to research). He was also a certified scuba diver.
Gary is preceded in death by parents Ted and Esther Hanten.
Gary leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Marlene Hanten; step-son, Jamie Aikman and partner, Jessica Pierce; brother, Mike Hanten and partner, Carol Faulhaber; sister, Cindy Fraley and husband, Tim; sister, Julie Prince and husband, Dan; sister, Sandy Berge and husband, John; brother, Tom Hanten and wife, Barb. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
