Florence Clarene Spaid, 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday night, July 27, 2025, with her family by her side.

Clarene was born on December 30, 1938, in Stroud, Oklahoma, to Charley Clarence “CC” and Veda Louise (Conallis) Hodge. She attended school in Stroud and graduated from Stroud High School in 1957. After high school, she enrolled in nursing school at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Oklahoma City, where she earned her nursing degree and became a registered nurse. She began her career at Stroud Hospital.

On August 12, 1961, Clarene married Clarence “Sam” Spaid at the old First Baptist Church in Davenport, Oklahoma. Sam preceded her in death in 2017.

Following their marriage, the couple moved to Germany due to Sam’s military service. After their time overseas, they returned to the United States, living in New Mexico for 12 years, enjoying life and building memories. They later moved to Texas before eventually settling back in Oklahoma in the early 1990s.

Clarene’s nursing career followed her across the country and around the world. She served in various roles, including as an operating room, ICU, and emergency room nurse. Her compassionate spirit also led her to work in hospice care. In 2003, Clarene retired after more than 40 years of dedicated service in the nursing profession.

Outside of work, Clarene found joy in being outdoors. She especially loved mowing her yard and tending to her flower garden.

Clarene is preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Veda Hodge; her husband of 56 years, Sam Spaid; a son, Todd Steven Spaid; grandson, Rance Spaid; and brothers, Charles “Fudge” Hodge, and Ronnie Hodge. She is survived by a daughter, Karen Spaid; grandchildren, Chandra Ford and husband, Matt Ford, Dawnyell Brown and husband, Casey Brown, and Nicole Spaid and fiancé, Bartek Swistak, and Michael Melis; great-grandchildren, Remi, Cason, Weston, Cypress, Sterling, Bryer, and Taryn; as well as a host of other family members and friends.
