Chandler

Edward “Ed” Eugene Shannon Sr., 78, passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon, November 8, 2025, in Chandler, Oklahoma.

Ed was born on November 30, 1946, in Evart, Michigan, to Spencer and Virginia (Wiard) Shannon. He grew up in Evart and graduated from Evart High School in 1967. After high school and a period of working locally, Ed enlisted in the United States Army at 21 years old where he proudly served for three years and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

On November 16, 1968, Ed married the love of his life, Patricia Parsons, in Midland, Michigan. In 1980, they moved from Michigan to Oklahoma for work in the oil field industry. Following the oil bust of the early 1980s, Ed founded and operated his own business, Independent Movers, which he successfully ran for 20 years. Later, he and Patricia worked side by side at Wal-Mart in Edmond for a decade before retiring.

Outside of work, Ed enjoyed life’s simple pleasures—watching westerns, hosting family barbecues, and spending time in Bible study. For many years, he shared encouragement and faith with others by posting a daily Bible verse on Facebook. In 2013, Ed and Patricia settled in Chandler to be closer to family. He was a devoted member of Woodcrest Baptist Church in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Spencer and Virginia Shannon; a baby sister, Carol Jean Shannon; sister, Elsie Owens; and 3 brothers, Jim Shannon, Forest Shannon, and Bill Shannon.

Those left to cherish his memory are, his wife of 57 years, Patricia Shannon; children, Carol Reynolds and her husband, Joseph; Edward Shannon Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth; Mike Shannon and his wife, Eva; and Kenneth Shannon and his wife Amanda; brother, Charles Shannon of Michigan; 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family members and dear friends.
