David Marion Alsip, 79, a lifelong resident of Chandler, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, August 2, 2025, in Oklahoma City.
David was born on May 10, 1946, in Chandler to Jesse Marion and Zelda (Saulsberry) Alsip. He attended school in Chandler and graduated from Chandler High School in 1964.
In 1963, while still in high school, David began serving in the Army National Guard. He continued his service until 1977, including a long tenure at Tinker Air Force Base from 1966 to 1981. During his time in the Guard, he served as a cook and was even offered the opportunity to work at the White House in Washington, D.C.—an honor he graciously declined in order to return home to Chandler. In total, David proudly served his country for 15 years.
On December 15, 1993, David married Denise Pozzuolo in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
A dedicated businessman, David owned and operated Chandler Concrete Company from 1971 to 1995. During that time and beyond, he also worked at NAICO as a collections manager, retiring in 2016 after 25 years of service.
David was deeply involved in the Chandler community, especially through coaching. He was an assistant coach for local baseball teams alongside Brent LaGere for many years, and he also helped coach a Chandler High School football team that went on to win a state championship.
Outside of work and service, David had a deep love for the outdoors. He was an avid hunter of deer, quail, pheasant, and dove, and he treasured his annual hunting trips with family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling as far as Alaska to reel in salmon and halibut. A lifelong fan of boxing, he was thrilled to have met Muhammad Ali at a Tulsa Fight Night. David also had a passion for horse racing, frequenting tracks like Remington Park, Fair Meadows in Tulsa, and Ruidoso Downs in New Mexico. And if there was an OSU game on, he was sure to be watching—he was a devoted supporter of all things Cowboy sports.
Above all, David was a loving man, devoted husband, and a dedicated father. Affectionately known by his nickname 'Dog,' David was a loyal and valued friend to many.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Zelda Alsip; brothers, Tom Alsip, and Dale Alsip; and a sister, Joan Alsip.
He is survived by his wife of almost 32 years, Denise Alsip; children, Andrew Alsip and wife, Kathi Alsip, Bradley Marion Alsip and wife, Chris Alsip, Pete Calvanese and wife, Amber Calvanese, and Andrea Welch and husband, Brandon Welch; grandchildren, Alexandria Bowie, Cason Alsip, Drew Alsip, Brynlee Alsip, Jack Hodge, Luci Hodge, Addyson Nicole Taylor, Gracie Marie Calvanese, Kohen Mason Calvanese, and Carter David Welch; a great-grandchild, Ryann Savannah Townsend; his brother, Danny Alsip and his wife, Rinda Alsip; as well as a host of other family members and friends.
