Delbert Dewayne Henderson was born to Johnie and Elsie (Churchwell) Henderson in Newalla, Oklahoma on July 8, 1942. He passed peacefully from this life March 18, 2017. He grew up in Newalla where he lived all his life and graduated from McLoud High School in 1960. At an early age Delbert accepted Christ as his Savior and faithfully served Him throughout his life. Delbert learned the meaning of hard work at the early age of 11 taking responsibility for a herd of registered Hereford cattle. Delbert was married to Dolly (Self) for 52 years and shared many wonderful memories raising their family. Delbert, Dolly and family traveled to many states showing cattle and received many awards. Delbert and Dolly established D&D Feed and managed and owned it for 46 years. Delbert was deeply involved in 4-H and FFA. Years ago he canvassed the businesses of Harrah soliciting donations to establish the first Booster Club of Harrah which remained active for several years. About four years ago he repeated the same process as the original Booster Club had ceased. Delbert served as president of the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery for several years. He was a member of the Oklahoma & National Gelbvieh Association and a lifetime member of the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association. Delbert was very active in the McLoud Alumni Association and was the first fire chief at Newalla. Delbert's greatest passion was auctioneering which he continued to do until the end of his life. Delbert is survived by his wife, Dolly, two daughters, Sheila Childers and husband, Jeff, Sonja Malaske and husband, Scott, one son, Mike Calhoun and wife, Shannon; seven grandchildren, Lacey Childers, Logan Ward & husband, Houston, Baylen Malaske and wife, Kaitlyn, Brayden Malaske, Lexi Malaske, Brooke Calhoun and Madison Calhoun; two great-grandchildren, Kolstyn Williams and Bowen Ward; two brothers-in-law, Jearl Self and Johnny Self and wife, Marcia; one sister-in-law, Doris Self and also a host of nieces and nephews and many life long friends whom he cherished. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnie and Elsie Henderson and two brothers-in-law, Kennard and Vernon Self. Delbert was a faithful, loving husband and father; a man who sacrificed for the sake of his family. Don't look at what he left behind but what he made possible for others. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses, especially Jim Rogers for the care he received at OU Medical Center. They also want to thank Dr. Gregory Parker. Delbert was blessed to have Lacey Childers, his granddaughter and also Dr. Parker's nurse to give him special care. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 in the Fellowship Hall at First Baptist Church, Newalla, OK. Services to celebrate his life will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Newalla, OK. Interment will follow at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Newalla, OK. Services are under the direction of Smith~Parks Funeral Service in Harrah, OK.
