Sonja Kay Harris, a lifelong resident of Meeker, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026, in Meeker, at the age of 87.

Sonja was born on June 10, 1939, in Meeker, Oklahoma, to Edwin and Reva (Flowers) Crownover. She grew up in Meeker, attended Meeker Schools and was a proud member of the Meeker High School Class of 1957. Sonja remained deeply connected to the community she called home throughout her life.

Sonja married Donald Edward “Ed” Harris, and together they shared 63 years of marriage. Their life together was filled with family, companionship and countless memories. They were blessed with two sons, Gene and Clay, and remained devoted to one another until Ed’s passing on April 17, 2021. Even the simple moments they shared became special ones, including many games of Yahtzee and Wahoo played together through the years.

Sonja worked for AT&T for many years. Outside of work, she had a lifelong love for horses. As a young woman, she enjoyed barrel racing, an interest that reflected both her adventurous spirit and her appreciation for horses. That love remained with her throughout her life. Her horses, Sassy and Honey, held a special place in her heart.

Family was at the center of Sonja’s life, and she especially treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took great pride in watching her family grow and loved the opportunities she had to be part of their lives.

Sonja found happiness in both life’s adventures and its simple pleasures. She loved her dogs, including her beloved Okie, and enjoyed trips to the casino. Some of her favorite adventures were the birthday trips she took with her sisters, when they would choose a new destination and head off together to celebrate. Those trips provided plenty of fun, laughter and treasured memories between the sisters.

Sonja also had an appreciation for the beauty around her, particularly the sky. Whether it was the colors, clouds or simply an especially beautiful day, she enjoyed taking the time to notice and appreciate the view above her.

Sonja was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Reva Crownover; her beloved husband, Ed Harris; and two brothers, Harold Crownover and Lloyd Crownover.

Those left to cherish Sonja’s memory include her two sons, Gene Harris and wife Barbara, and Clay Harris; four grandchildren, Colt Harris and wife Emilee, Chad Harris and wife Taylor, T.J. Harris and wife Amy, and Jared Harris and wife Kristie; eleven great-grandchildren, Josie, Tayton, Aubrey, Raylee, Brylee, Hayden, Emerson, Landry, Sebastian, Braden and Kennedy; two brothers, Jody Crownover and wife Marie, and Lawton Crownover and wife Teri; two sisters, Phyllis France and Connie Park and husband Johnny; her beloved horses, Sassy and Honey; her dog, Okie; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
