Obituary

Russell “Leroy” Duncan, 75, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 1, 2026, in Chandler, Oklahoma.

Leroy was born on December 1, 1950, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, to William Henry and Gladys Lucille (Gilliam) Duncan. He was raised in Wellston, Oklahoma, where he attended school, participated in the FFA program and played basketball. While still in high school, Leroy hauled hay during the summertime. He graduated from Wellston High School in 1969 and later attended OSU Institute of Technology in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. After completing his studies, he began what would become a lifelong career in the oil field.

Leroy proudly served his country in the United States Army. After his honorable service, he returned to the oil field, where he worked as a drillman. Throughout his career, he was employed by Jeter Oil Field Services in Woodward, Oklahoma, as well as other oil field companies. Later, Leroy found great satisfaction working as a ranch foreman, a role he truly enjoyed until his retirement in 2010.

In 2005, Leroy met Janis Tucker, and the two shared 20 wonderful years together, recently celebrating their 20th anniversary in October of 2025.

Outside of work, Leroy enjoyed working on cars, fishing, camping, and playing his guitar. He took great pride in caring for his land and tending to his horses and chickens. A serviceman at heart, Leroy faithfully supported the Wounded Warrior Project.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, William Lee Duncan; and a sister, Wilma “Bennie” Richardson.

He is survived by his spouse, Janis Tucker; children, Christina Miner, Lance Duncan, Lanna McKenzie, and Michael Duncan; his sister, Nancy Tillis; grandchildren, Dakota, Cierra, Avery, Gwenyth, Isabel, Jeremy, Curtis James, Kelly, William, Daisy, Nathaniel, and Richard; great-grandchildren, Ashton, Emma, and Nayeli; step-daughter, Eliza Tucker; 6 nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family members, and dear friends.
