Roy Lynn McMeans was the middle child of Paschal Alexander and Emma Jean McMeans. Roy was born in his parents' home on Thursday, August 7, 1941, at 11:30 am – just in time for lunch. He passed from this world into eternal life at 2:50 am July 5, 2026. His wife Twylia was at his side. Roy was preceded in death by both parents, his brother Donald Ray and granddaughter Sarah McMeans. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Twylia McMeans and daughter Erann Burns, Sons Chris McMeans and wife Jodie McMeans, Mark McMeans, Brian McMeans and wife Marcie McMeans. He is also survived by his beloved sister Barbara Feath and husband Bill, and dear friends Jim Hutton, Snuffy McNeil, Randy Adams who worked alongside Roy for many years.
Roy’s first marriage of 23 years was blessed with three sons 12 grandchildren, three step grandchildren and many great and step great grandchildren all who filled Roy’s life with joy, love and laughter.
The oldest son Chris has six children, Brent and wife Christie, Robin Nolan and husband Tony, Kyle and wife Faith, Austin and wife BK, Alissa Slocum and husband Buck, Amber Jacoby and husband Jarred.
Middle son Mark has five children, two of whom have preceded him in death, Jessie and Troy McMeans. He has three living sons, Mark II and wife Sherri, Marshall Gilcrease and fiancé Antonia, and Casey Gilcrease.
Youngest Son Brian has two sons: Nathan and wife Tate McMeans, and Matthew McMeans.
Roy was a wonderful, larger than life grandpa, a loyal and devoted father to his sons and stepdaughter. He was the love of his wife’s life and filled their life together with fun and adventure. They shared a lifelong love of horses. They raised many, two of whom are still at home. Roy and Twylia rode many miles together and often with other family and grandkids.
Roy was a tall man at 6’2”. He would have easily risen to a stately 6’6” if he could stand up straight. He was bow legged and required braces as a small boy to straighten his legs. Roy was a natural athlete excelling in basketball. College scouts were present to see him play his best and last high school game. He scored 30 points, making every shot he attempted that night. Scouts were so impressed by Roy’s talent and ability that he was offered a full scholarship to Arkansas State. But he and his sweetheart Linda had made plans to marry after high school. So, he honored his commitment to her and reminded his sons several weeks ago on Father's Day, he instead made them. He also played high school football but said he was there only to take up space since he could never figure out where the ball was. He was able to attend college for several semesters where he considered pursuing a degree in veterinary medicine, or perhaps law, but the rigors of work and a growing family prevented him from continuing.
Roy drove for United Transport and Jack Cooper Transport for nearly 43 years delivering new cars from the auto plants to dealers. After retirement, a friend taught Roy how to weld and he quickly undertook designing and constructing horse runs for his stallions, a round pen for exercising and training the horses he and Twylia were raising. He constructed hen houses, dog kennels, trailers and anything else he could imagine. His natural engineering ability was remarkable. Roy was still breaking horses at age 65 even after suffering many broken ribs on both sides and a broken neck after going headfirst over a young green broke filly. Although that event did manage to slow him down he and Twylia rode many, many miles together alone and with beloved family and friends.
From boyhood Roy was an avid hunter. His sons and grandsons often hunted with Roy and family Thanksgiving gatherings were sometimes weeklong hunting and feasting marathons with Roy calling home from the deer stand to make sure the next meal would be ready on arrival. He always treasured those memories and his love of hunting continued into his eighties long after his legs became unable to support his desire to hunt.
You never know when your last moments or last words will be shared. I love you were the last spoken words Roy and Twylia were able to share. Everyone has an appointment with eternity. Make your love known to those you love and make your eternal home a certainty while you are able. Roy gave his heart and life to Jesus at age 12 during a tent revival near his home in East Texas and was baptized in the nearby river. After marrying Twylia, he rededicated his life to Christ and joined the First Baptist Church in Meeker. Recently Roy and Twylia moved their church membership to Mammoth Baptist in Meeker where they are current members. Roy loved life and joyfully lived his life fully. He loved his family most dearly. Only illness was able to slow him down.
