Robert Lloyd Smith, 83, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026, in Chandler, Oklahoma.
Robert was born September 28, 1942, in Arona, Pennsylvania, to Robert Elliott and Zelma Blanch (Harvey) Smith. He grew up in Pennsylvania before proudly serving three years in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Bragg, Germany, and Fort Hood.
Following his military service, Robert returned to Pennsylvania, where he met his first wife and the mother of his children, Kathleen “Kathy” Hagen. They married on November 14, 1964, and raised their children in Indiana before purchasing land between Davenport and Kendrick, Oklahoma, where they established their ranch. Kathy preceded him in death on March 16, 2007.
Robert (Bob), army vet, worked for Chrysler in Detroit, Michigan, before beginning a career as a millwright at Bethlehem Steel Mill in Burns Harbor, Indiana. He dedicated more than 30 years to the mill before retiring. He also proudly served his community as a volunteer firefighter with the South Haven Fire Department for 20 years and was a member of DURR (Duneland Underwater Rescue and Recovery) for six years. Robert proudly earned his GED at the age of 42 and went on to complete some college credit.
In 2008, Robert married Betty Dawn (Walker) Smith. Robert was a Master Mason and was active in the Davenport Lions Club. He was also a former member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in South Haven, Indiana.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Zelma Smith; his first wife Kathy of 43 years; a sister, Joyce Omlor; and a brother, William Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Betty Dawn (Walker) Smith; son, Robert A. Smith and his wife Roseann L. Smith; daughter, Donna M. Tapped; Betty’s daughters, Gina Foster and Tammy Degelos; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his sister, Mary Ellen Exton; and his brothers, Gerald Smith, and Timothy Smith; as well as a host of other extended family members and dear friends.
