Richard Lee Thompson passed away on Tuesday August 25th, 2026, in Stroud, Oklahoma at the age of 85.

Richard was born at home on June 2nd, 1941, in Depew OK. He was the third of eight children born to Homer and Ruby Willingham Thompson.

Richard grew up in the Stroud area with some time living in Pampa, TX. He attended Stroud schools through the 10th grade then joined his father in the oilfield to help the family. He was known as a hard worker who often held multiple jobs at the same time. Richard's final job before retirement was as a forklift operator for Service King Manufacturing. He often stated this was the best job he ever had due to his brother Roy working alongside him.

On October 1st, 1988, he married the love of his life Tammie Renee Hanan. Together they enjoyed nearly 38 years of marriage, building a life centered around family and creating memories that will live on for generations. Throughout his life Richard had a deep love for working on automobiles. He was a master mechanic and could always figure out and fix the problem. In his younger years, he enjoyed buying older cars, getting them running to precision then selling or trading just to do it again. Richards one true passion in the mechanic area was Volkswagen’s. He is known around Stroud as the VW guy. He could tear down a motor and rebuild it in just a few hours. His latest hobby was working on dune buggies, often having his family work beside him.

Above all Richard treasured time with family, especially his grandchildren. He took great pride in being a PawPaw and filled that role with love and patience. He never missed an opportunity to attend their activities and celebrate their accomplishments. He was a fierce competitor playing Nintendo Mario Kart 8 and Monster Jam, as well as many board games.

Richard is survived by his wife, Tammie; son Zachary Thompson; daughters Annette LeGrande and husband Ted, Rachel Shields and husband Matt, Dakota Hamilton and husband Alex, Sherri Threet, Karen Gonzales and Kathryn Pierce; 15 grandchildren Abigayle, Ronnie, Jordan, Addi Sue, Rowan, Hunter, Connor, Alexiss, Matthew, Kelli, Crystal, Elizabeth, Daniqua, Joseph and Laura; 17 great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; his sister Billie Eversole; brother Roy Thompson; along with many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family who love and respected him deeply.

He was preceded in death by his parents; baby brother Lonnie; sisters Carolyn Fox, Phyllis Newham, Donna Stokes and Linda Collier.

His presence will be deeply missed but the love, patience and kindness he was known for will continue on in the family he loved dearly.
