Nicholas "Buck" Richard
Battle II
Mar 28, 1937 — Sep 23, 2026
Chandler
Nicholas “Buck” Richard Battle II, a longtime resident of Chandler, Oklahoma, passed away surrounded by his beloved family on September 23, 2026 in Chandler. He was 89 years old.
Nicholas Richard Battle II, better known as Buck, was born in Chandler, Oklahoma on March 28, 1937 to Nicholas Richard Battle, Sr and Ella (Long). He grew up in Chandler and graduated from Douglass High School in 1955, the last graduation class due to integration. Following graduation Buck proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany for two years.
After returning home, Buck began his working career washing cars in Yukon. He later went to work for Bendix before beginning a long and successful career with General Motors. Buck worked as a trainer and forklift operator before retiring. He is also a proud member of the United Auto Workers (UAW).
On November 19, 1960, Buck married Barbara Wilson. Together, they built a family and raised eight children and one grandchild. Family remained at the center of Buck’s life, and he took great pride in his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Buck was deeply involved in his community and maintained strong ties to the organization and causes that were important to him. He was a 32nd degree Prince Hall Freemason, a longtime member of the Douglas High School Alumni Association, and a member of Citizens for the Improvement of Chandler (CIC).
Away from work and his community involvement, Buck enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved animals and enjoyed spending time gardening. He was also an enthusiastic sports fan and could often be found cheering on the Chandler Lions, the Oklahoma Sooners, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Texas Rangers. Buck was also a jokester, loved playing dominoes, and loved helping those in need. Buck was a believer in Jesus Christ. One of Buck’s advice is, “Do the right thing.”
Buck was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Ella Battle; his daughter, Renee Battle; his grandson, Roderick Battle; two brothers Lucious Glover and Sylvester Glover; and his sister, Rosalee Glover Henderson.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Barbara; his daughters, Mechele Battle-Berry; Lynn Battle-Matthews; Mari Battle; Katara Battle-Hill and husband Evan Hill; and Kim Battle; his sons, Nicholas Richard Battle III and wife Tracey Battle; and Charles Battle and wife Caroline; his grandchildren, Melissiea Hill, John Berry, Paul Matthews, Amari Tobler, Brianna Berry, Evan Hill II, Zuri Battle, Charles Battle II, Amani Battle, and one grandchild on the way; three great grandchildren; his brother, Glen Battle; his sisters, Evelyn Battle and Lena Naff; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
