John Wade
Hankins
August 7, 1956 – April 21, 2026
John Wade Hankins, 69, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at his home in Wellston, Oklahoma.
John was born on August 7, 1956, in Berea, Ohio, to William and Anna (Cochran) Hankins. He graduated from Atwater High School. At just 17 years old, John enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He was later stationed at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City, Oklahoma.
While in Midwest City, John met Miss Janet Borum, and the couple were united in marriage on March 19, 1977, at First Southern Baptist Church. In 1984, John and Janet made their home in Wellston, Oklahoma, where they built a life together.
John worked as an electronic technician throughout his career, holding positions with I-Ball Instruments, Seagate, and Metro Transit. In his spare time, he enjoyed going to the pond, hunting and fishing, picking blackberries, and driving his old tractor on their 57-Acres. He also had a passion for classic cars and loved attending car shows.
John cherished his relationship with Jesus and with his family. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, sharing life with them. He was a lovable and devoted grandfather who faithfully supported his seven grandchildren in their sports. Known for his ornery sense of humor, John delighted in teasing them and keeping everyone laughing.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents on both sides, Hankins and Cochran; his brother, Lee Hankins; and sister, Mary Boyer.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janet Hankins; daughter, Nikki Hankins; sons, Kyl Hankins, and Nathan Hankins; grandchildren, Abbygale, Mystyn, Kason, Zaedyn, Josiah, Kylár, and Noah; sister, Lisa (Hankins) Carver; brothers, Bill Hankins, Rich Hankins, Larry Hankins, and Ben Hankins; uncle, Johnny Cochran; as well as a host of other extended family members and dear friends.
