(Hall) Hopkins-Townsley
April 5, 1936 – April 18, 2026
Ethel Eunice Hall Hopkins Townsley of Chandler, OK passed away Saturday April 18, 2026, at the age of 90 (just past her 90th Birthday on Easter Sunday) in Edmond, OK. She was the youngest of 9 children born to Thomas Franklin Hall & Ethel Eunice Hagar Hall on April 5, 1936, in Wellston, OK. She was named after her mother as Lil’ Ethel Eunice Hall.
She married Albert Wayne Hopkins May 6, 1955, and together they raised 3 children over their almost 30 years—Debbie, Rhonda & Richard. They moved from Wellston to Chandler in November 1966. She followed Albert on numerous pipeline jobs in their early days before children and later went as far as Alaska while he was on pipeline. They tragically suffered the loss of daughter Rhonda in June 1981, and Albert passed away in January 1985.
A few years later she met and married Fred Newton Townsley on November 11, 1988, and they lived in Chandler until his death in January 2022. Ethel & Fred took many a trip across country over their 33-year marriage while they were able.
Ethel graduated from Wellston High School May 1954 (she has received several Oldest Alumni awards from there). She later attended Hill’s Business College in Oklahoma City. She worked at several places including Howard Johnson’s on turnpike at Wellston, First State Bank in Stroud, Lincoln County Clerk’s office (where she retired), Taylor Ford in Chandler, and lastly Project Heart in Meeker.
Ethel became a member of the Wellston Assembly of God early on, and later transferred membership to Chandler 1st Assembly of God. She enjoyed working with Children’s Church, Missionettes, and Vacation Bible School.
Ethel enjoyed playing card games with family members (having learned from early age playing Canasta with her Mom). She enjoyed Reading all kinds of books (you could always find her with a book in her hands), Playing games on her phone or computer, Puzzles, going to Casino, Going out to eat, shopping, and Lake trips with Family. But she mostly loved getting together with Family, especially her grandkids and great-grandkids.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents Tom & Ethel Hall, husbands Albert Wayne Hopkins and Fred Newton Townsley, daughter Rhonda Lynn Hopkins, daughter-in-law Mickey Hopkins; brothers Joe Hall & Eutrice Hall; sisters Baby Elenora Hall, Baby Lenora Hall, Edith Ulman, Lucille Abney, Baby Mamie Loretta Hall, & Vivian Hendrix.
Ethel is survived by her daughter Deborah Kaye Dooley & husband Ed, son Richard (Hoppy) Wayne Hopkins, step-daughter Michelle Townsley & Bob, step-sons Stephen Townsley & Bradley Townsley; Grandchildren Tracy Phillips & husband Rob, Jamie Wilson & husband Justin, Amanda Tutt, Erin Newton & Natalie Newton; Great-grandchildren Gage Wilson, Kaden Martin, Riley Phillips, Shelby Correa, RaeLynn Childress, Jaxon Boggs, Everlee Patterson & Kynsli Phillips; along with other family members & friends.
