Edwin Baker Coose, a beloved son, husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on June 3, 2026, at the age of 89. Born in Warren, Arkansas, on October 26, 1936, he was the cherished son of Marel Baker Coose and Idelle Civa Coose.
Edwin graduated from Classen High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, in 1954. At the young age of 17, he joined the Army, serving as a Korean Veteran until his honorable discharge in May 1957. During his service, Edwin had the opportunity to visit many historical sites across Germany, France, England, and Holland.
After his military service, Edwin pursued higher education at the University of Oklahoma in May 1957, where he also began flight training at Tulakes Airport in Bethany, Oklahoma. By 1961, he had not only earned a Bachelor of Business Administration but also completed his flight training, obtaining a commercial license.
On March 9, 1963, Edwin married the love of his life, Kathryn Jean Simek. The couple moved to Love Field, Dallas, Texas, in 1964, shortly after Edwin worked as a pilot sales representative and charter pilot at Aircraftsman, Inc. at Will Rogers Airport in Oklahoma City. That same year, Edwin and Kathryn purchased a farm a few miles northwest of Shawnee Mall.
In 1967, Edwin embarked on a career as a contracting officer at Tinker Air Force Base, managing significant Air Force contracts that took him to Washington D.C. and the Pentagon. In 1981, Edwin and Kathryn founded Coose Auto Supply in Meeker, Oklahoma, which they successfully operated for 13 years.
Beyond his professional achievements, Edwin was a devoted member of the Meeker Assembly of God for 58 years. He actively participated in mission trips to Ghana, Africa, where he helped construct tabernacles. After retiring in 1987, Edwin enjoyed raising cattle and maintaining the farm. In 1993, Edwin and Kathryn traveled to Israel, visiting significant biblical sites.
Edwin cherished his annual pheasant hunting trips to Nebraska with close friends. He continued his passion for flying until the age of 74, working for Sonoco Oil.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Benny Coose and Mel Coose. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathryn J. Coose; sister, Syble Faye Sherburne; son, Jeffery Baker Coose; daughter, Andrea Renee Manley; and grandchildren: Samuel Thomas, Joshua Thomas, Josiah Coose, Kalyn Coose, and Mikaela Bohannon, one great grandson, Ezra Bohannon along with many cousins and nephews.
