Dr. Lois Gean Evans, 96, passed away on Thursday morning, June 25, 2026, in Meeker, Oklahoma.
Lois was born on September 19, 1929, in Carney, Oklahoma, to Jesse and Nova Irene (Gazaway) Pulliam. She was raised in Wellston, Oklahoma, where she graduated from Wellston High School in 1947. That same year, she married Merle Wayne Evans. They shared many memorable years together before his passing in 1991.
A lifelong advocate for education, Lois earned her bachelor's degree, master's degree, and doctorate from the University of Oklahoma. She began her career as an educator with Moore Public Schools, where she served from 1965 until her retirement in 1991. During her tenure, she worked as a teacher, principal, and superintendent. Following her retirement from public education, she continued sharing her knowledge as a professor at the University of Oklahoma, Rose State College, Oklahoma State University, and the University of Central Oklahoma. She also served on the Moore Public School Board.
Lois had a remarkable gift for understanding and connecting with people. She had a knack for meeting others where they were, making each person feel valued. Her students admired her genuine compassion, and she was loved by all who knew her.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Lois enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad. She was also an avid genealogist. Lois was a member of the West Cherokee Tribe, the Eastern Star, Phi Delta Kappa of OU, and Pipeline Local Union 798. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was a longtime member of Moore First United Methodist Church.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sherry Lynn Evans; brother, Gordon Pulliam; and sister, Nancy Kay Crosswell.
She is survived by sons, Larry Evans and wife Kathy, Richard Evans and wife Debbie, Randy Evans and girlfriend Tammy; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other extended family members and friends.
