Obituary

Charlene Maples, 91, went home to be with her LORD and SAVIOR on Friday morning, October 30, 2026, in Ada, Oklahoma.

Charlene was born on August 2, 1935, in Marlow, Oklahoma, to Charles and Ocie Hartley. Charlene grew up and attended school in Waurika, Oklahoma, where she met the love of her life, Robert Charles Maples. They were united in marriage on May 7th, 1955, at the First Baptist Church in Waurika, Oklahoma. Prior to Robert’s death, they celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.

Robert and Charlene moved to Chandler, Oklahoma, in 1974 and attended the Chandler Southern Baptist Church for over 40 years prior to their move to Ada, Oklahoma, in November 2019. Together with Robert, she assisted with Baptist Training Union at different churches throughout the state.

Charlene worked in many capacities, serving as a clerk at Konawa Public School, also serving in the banking and insurance industry and retiring from the Lincoln County Treasurer’s Office.

Charlene belonged to many clubs and organizations during her lifetime, consisting of Phil Avent Club, Extensions Clubs, Mothers Clubs and Cub Scout Den Mother for many years. She also taught Sunday school for many years and played the piano at church when needed. Charlene received a national honor as being selected as an Outstanding Young Women of America.

Charlene loved her family and was always an inspiration to all of us, showing us, what real faith was all about. She supported her children and their friends, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, rooting them on while watching their ball games, sheep showing events, sports, 4-H and FFA banquets. She was the glue that held our family together and inspired each of us to always do our best in anything that we set our eyes on. Charlene was a devout Christian, faithful servant, prayer warrior, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. We were extremely blessed to have her as our mother and grandmother.

She enjoyed her retirement years shopping at Hobby Lobby. She was blessed with a loving and giving heart. She loved making people feel a little more special. She loved spending time with her friends and family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Several years ago, when my dad went through his cancer treatments in Oklahoma City, both were introduced to children and adults across our state, our nation and other countries being treated for cancer at Procure Cancer Treatment Center. It was like a big family there, which all supported each other. They would gather toys and stuffed animals each week that she purchased and would distribute them to the children that were going through their cancer treatment that day, trying to make a difference and bring back a smile on their face.

Charlene Maples was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Maples; mother, Ocie Taylor; father, Charles Hartley; grandparents, GW Ball and Rosie Ball; brothers, John Taylor, GW Taylor, Bob Taylor and Dale Taylor; and sisters, Nan French and Betty Taylor.

She is survived by her sons, Bob Maples and wife Donna, Wynnewood, Okla.; Mark Maples and wife Jan, Bearden, Okla.; and Jim Maples and wife Dawn, Ada, Okla.; and sister, Jane Green, Lawton, Oklahoma. Her grandchildren include Amanda Maples, Santa Fe, New Mexico; J.P. Maples and wife Jamie, Latta; Robbie Maples and wife Sarah, Norman; Tyler Roy, Stonewall; and Josh Maples and wife Maggie, Oklahoma City. Charlene’s great-grandchildren are Daxon and Maizey Maples, Latta; Davie Maples, Oklahoma City; and Judah Maples of Norman, along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services for Charlene will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, November 6th, 2026, at The Chandler Southern Baptist Church in Chandler, Oklahoma. Family and friends can pay their respects to Charlene from 12:00–8:00 PM, Thursday, November 5, at Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Chandler.
